Week 13: The Eighth Amendment and Civil Liberties



    Great job on the debate! You all were so much more prepared, and you argued your points very well, with much more supporting evidence. That was probably one of the best debates any of my Key of Liberty classes has ever done--I'm so proud of you all!

    Since we ran out of time for lecture, please watch the following videos about the 8th Amendment and the Bill of Rights before you write your paper. They give a some interesting background on these important parts of the Constitution:

WRITING: 

  • Should convicted felons have full rights of citizenship restored after their prison time is served?

READING: 

  • Finish The Law. Book discussion will be on Wednesday; Gavin, Shayla, Skyler, and Michael will all be leading the discussion. Bring your books, notes and be prepared to share your insights and questions. Donuts will be served to all those who complete this task!

QUIZ #4: 

  • Last one! We'll be taking the Constitution Quiz in class on Wednesday. Use it to help you study for the Bowl!

PRESENTATIONS: 

  • Great job Skyler and Shayla! This Wednesday we'll hear from Katie on Dorothy Thompson, Gavin on Benjamin Franklin, and Austen on Thomas Jefferson.
